Waimangu was an absolutely stunning geothermal site that had hot springs, geysers, craters, and many more natural features that I had never seen before. It was very fascinating to learn about the old and recent history of the site that the different events that reshaped the site. The way they harvest the geothermal heat for energy was also interesting and especially the fact stated that if they could transport the energy to the southern island, it would revolutionize energy use down south. The Tamaki experience was very insightful while also very fun and engaging. The many different rituals, songs, games, and ways of life that they educated us on were very interesting, and I’m glad I got to be the chief! It was a little intimidating but also very memorable to greet the leaders of the tribe. We got to talk to the leader and ask him many questions about there spiritual and sustainability practices that have been passed down through generations. Overall today has been my favorite day so far.
