Today we met with Tourism Industry Aotearoa (TIA). They are an independent association that works with other companies to make sure that they are working towards sustainability. I really enjoyed meeting with this company. One of the things that I really appreciate is that they make themselves available to their members. They work with their partners to make sure that they understand what sustainability is and how they can make their product/service/etc. more sustainable and at the same time keep their business up and running. TIA also uses “regenerative” instead of “sustainable.” I really appreciate that because it really changes the way that I think about sustainability. They explained how using the word sustainability usually means that the person will sustain where that person is. Using the word regenerative switches that mindset to where the person focuses on revitalization and making their place better. This is something I have never thought about before and I hope this change in vocabulary becomes the norm when it comes to talking about sustainability and sustainable practices.
