This afternoon, we attended “Sustainability Trust.” Earlier this morning, I got to present in front of the class about this organization. Prior towards attending the class, I noticed that Sustainability Trust uses numerous forms of recycling such as jewelry recycling, plastic, metal lid, e-waste, curtain, metal, munch silicone, battery, wool, car seat, and bicycle recycling. As explained in the class session, Sustainability Trust is not a profit charity and all of their profits are actually used to help fund Wellington curtain bank, warm fuzzies Wellington and other community programs in the city. I found this to be very interesting as it gave a very sense of community engagement as well as collectivism. It seems that the theme for New Zealand is staying touch with your community in any way possible along with having a great sense of helping each other. It is really a community collective program rather than an individualistic corporation. I think it was also very nice to hear that another one of their goals was to help make warmer houses for NZ residents who are getting a low income and they do not want any person to live in cold, damp house. They seek to give people their basic needs and only want the best to keep their environment healthy, and safe.
