Today we visited the Sky Hotel and learned about the sustainability efforts of the Sky City group. We learned about the three pillars of environmental, social, and governmental sustainability. We also learned about the Maori culture and the practice of having a sacred space and an eating space. Anthony Thompson, the corporate sustainability manager taught us about the traditional meeting and introduction practices of the Maori, and we ate a small meal to ground us in the space as is customary. It was really cool to learn about all the social, environmental, and governmental sustainability efforts that sky city does. After learning about the sky city sustainability in my free time a group of us went to the botanical gardens and went up to see the views from the war memorial. Overall this second day was really informative and made me realize how beautiful this land is furthering my desire to promote sustainability and conservation.
