skycity hotel:
We learned about the sustainable practices that sky city implements into their business and world around them. A big take away was “ESG – Sustainability” the three practices (environmental, social, governance). Our guide, the SkyCity Sustainability Manager, Anthony Thompson not only taught us about their sustainable responsibilities but did a Karakia mo te Kai (a prayer before eating). Anthony had asked us if thought we would have to be an expert in any of the ESG elements if representing them but I thought no, only because I believe we are meant to learn no matter our expertise level and while we learn we are able to make an impact based off our findings.

Maungawhau/Mt. Eden & Eden Garden
Julie, Connor, Eric and I went to Mount Eden – a sacred site of great historic and spiritual significance to Ngā Whenua o Tāmaki Makaurau (Māori tribes of Auckland) – and hiked up to the stop to enjoy such a beautiful view of Auckland. We learned that around 1200AD Maungawhau was one of the largest forfited settlements in the region and for centuries it was home to thousands of people. We saw rua (pits for food storage). We also went to the botanical garden and saw many different types of plants! The nice lady at the counter let us in for free!
