Today we learned about the design and architecture of Wellington and how the city’s infrastructure is attempting to be more green. The city has embraced green building practices, encouraging the construction of energy-efficient and environmentally friendly structures. Many buildings in Wellington incorporate innovative design elements such as solar panels, rainwater harvesting systems, and efficient insulation to reduce energy consumption and minimize their carbon footprint. We saw upfront how companies are incorporating Māori knowledge in their efforts to be more sustainable. The conversation we had at the end of the day really opened my eyes on how our democracy suppresses the conversation of sustainability that really needs to be at the forefront of our country.
