Today I was exposed to lots of information I never have heard before. Lots of the urban planning and architecture theories and jargon were new yet very interesting to me. The first presentation we had today stood out to me the most. His notion of picking and choosing sustainable options based on its cultural significance of it was very interesting to me and is something I’ve thought of before. I would also find it a bit funny that plastic straws are such a big deal to people, yet the plastic packaging and wrap that overwhelmingly packaged the food is often overlooked. There are so many choices throughout our daily lives that we can make to lower our ecological and carbon footprint. Walking, turning off the lights, using reusable products, and many more things people can do everyday to make sustainable decisions. I struggled with his notion of sustainable food choices, as I feel as even vegetables and fruits produce a huge footprint in terms of pesticide and water use. Maybe that’s just me rationalizing me wanting to eat meat.
