Today we dove deeper into New Zealand’s tourism industry. Something that stood out to me the most was the comparison of taking a flight and staying in New Zealand to taking a flight to a popular destination. This was termed as a flight and flop where you take a trip but don’t really immerse yourself in the culture. Living in Las Vegas, it is definitely one of those flight and flop destinations and you pay quite a lot to enjoy certain outdoor activities both in time and financially yet you can find double digit flight tickets for vacation.
Another part of the meeting was learning that New Zealand markets exactly what kind of people they want to come to the country instead of the other way around. I think this is very unique compared to the US since you see a lot of marketing revolved around celebrities or influencers who visit that country and makes others want to go too.
