The company that we visited this morning had the purpose of shaping tourism for the benefit of Aotearoa and its people. Their vision was to lead the world in sustainable tourism. Tourism Industry Aotearoa (TIA) is a middleman corporation between the tourism industry and New Zealand’s government. However, many tourism businesses are members of the TIA.
Today the great collaborative effort for a sustainable future between the private sector and public sector was extremely apparent. You can easily tell that their shared devotion to the nation and its well-being is what flames the communal spirit. Due to this strong relationship, policies and actions are able to be made quickly. The TIA gets to influence laws on sustainability with relative ease, giving a voice to the tourism industry. The tourism sustainability commitment (TSC) is a commitment proposed by the TIA that prioritizes 4 things. These are economy, visitors, host community, and environment. This is to ensure that the businesses that are a part of the TIA have a road map to follow in order to obtain a sustainable business and work their way to a sustainable industry.
