Today we explored the beautiful island of Waiheke and learned about the vineyards and sustainability on the island. Learning about how the grapes are grown for the vineyard and the process of making wine was very interesting. It was also interesting to learn about eco-tourism. Everything they do on the island is connected to giving back to the land. I think the concept of eco-tourism is important and should be used more widely throughout the world. Tourism is a major source of income for many countries but this can have adverse effects on the environment. Tourism should include weaving sustainability into whatever tourists are already learning about a place in order to take care of our planet.
