Today was our first official day of class! We met with Anthony, the Sustainability Manager of SkyCity (a gambling and entertainment company and hotel chain). I learned more of the ins and outs of what it takes to run something as big as SkyCity and make sure that it is sustainable and continues to develop sustainable practices. I learned of the different spheres Anthony must dabble in (environmental, social, and governance) in order to create plans to help the company become more sustainable. The thing that really stuck with me was that the company develops plans that have a 100-year timeline instead of the typical 3-5 years. I really liked the idea of more long term planning as it really does show that the company/whoever is making the plan, is in it for the long run and will continue to strive towards their goals.

After SkyCity, Allie (@aortega) and I explored more of Auckland. We saw a cool building that had a compost area with overgrown, beautiful plants (Pic. 1). We then ended up at Albert park (pic 2). We visited Auckland Art Gallery (pic 3). Finally, we had dinner and are back in the hotel!
