Today I learned about the challenges many businesses and corporations like Sky City face when trying to make their practices more sustainable. The speaker was very informative about the different pillars of sustainability they focus on and what different plans they are implementing to increase the scope of their sustainability. The speaker also educated us on some aspects of Maori culture and the history of colonization, and the many challenges the Maori people have faced. It was also interesting to hear the many different ways they try to help people dealing with bad gambling habits, such as making them step away from machines after awhile of gambling and workers being trained to see people who are struggling and might need some help.

After our visit to Sky City, me and a couple of people headed to Mt. Eden where we took a short hike up to the summit. Mt. Eden is an inactive volcano that has an amazing view at the top and a very interesting green landscape that covers the mouth of the volcano. I learned that kings would live on the top of the mountain and they would keep food in those little depressions, as seen in the photo above. It was interesting to see all the green spaces incorporated throughout the city. We then walked down to the Eden Garden to take a quick walk around the garden to see the extremely wide variety of plants around the area. It surprised me to see very tropical plants like palm trees and succulents right next to wood plants like pine trees.
